मैं लौटी तो बच्चों की हंसी मेरे साथ चलकर बाहर आ गई.
उसे रोकने के लिए कोई कानून बना नहीं और हवा ने कभी रोक लगाई नहीं.
जेल से बाहर आई यह नाजुक हंसी मेरे सिरहाने से चिपक गई.
महिला वार्ड का दरवाजा खुल रहा है.
22 चाबियों का गुच्छा हाथ में लिए प्रहरी दरवाजा खोलती है.
मैं रजिस्टर में साइन करती हूं.
अंदर जाते ही बाईं तरफ एक बेहद सुंदर,
कमसिन सी महिला एक छोटे से बच्चे को हाथ में लिए हुए खड़ी है.
उसकी गोद में एक बच्चा है.
वह करीब
9 महीने का है.
यह महिला करीब एक साल पहले जेल में आई थी.
पति की हत्या के आरोप में.
यह कहते हुए उसकी आंखें भर जाती है.
वह कहती है कि उसने अपने पति की हत्या नहीं की.
यह बच्चा उसकी बिखर चुकी शादी की इकलौती सौगात है.
बच्चे का नाम उसने रखा है सूरज.
सूरज आंखें उठाकर मुझे देखता है.
उस बच्चे को नहीं मालूम कि जहां उसने जन्म लिया और पहली सांसें ली,
वह एक जेल है.
मां दसवीं पास है.
उम्र
20 साल है.
पूरी जिंदगी सामने पड़ी है,
लेकिन इस समय हकीकत में सब ठहरा हुआ है.
मैं आज उन बच्चों से मिलने आई हूं जो तिनका-तिनका मध्य प्रदेश का हिस्सा बने थे.
मुझे उन्हें अपना आभार व्यक्त करना है.
तिनका-तिनका मध्यप्रदेश की जब शुरुआत हुई थी,
उस समय इस विशेष परियोजना के साथ चार बच्चे जुड़े थे.
चारों ने इस किताब में रंगे भरे थे.
आज जेल में उनमें से एक बच्चा मौजूद है.
उसके अलावा आठ और बच्चे जेल में आ चुके हैं.
मैं जब पहुंचती हूं,
उस समय बच्चे क्रेश में हैं.
मुझे देखकर वे बेहद खुश होते हैं.
दो बच्चे मुझे पहले से जानते हैं.
6 साल का अंशुल
(बदला हुआ नाम)
आकर मुझसे लिपट जाना चाहता है,
लेकिन फिर न जाने कौन-सा डर उसे रोक देता है.
वह पास आकर खड़ा हो जाता है.
मैं इन सब बच्चों के हाथों में किताब थमा देती हूं.
मुस्कुराता हुआ अंशुल किताब को देखता है.
वो बेहद खुश है.
वो अपनी तस्वीरों को पहचानाता है.
वो उन्हें बार-बार छूकर देखता है.
अपने साथियों को बताता है कि कैसे उसने इस किताब के लिए एक घर भी बनाया था.
लेकिन एकाएक वो बाकी तीन बच्चों को याद करने लगता है.
वह उनके नाम लेता है.
मुझसे पूछता है कि वो सब कहां चले गए.
कब गए,
क्यों गए.
वो भावुक है और मैं शब्दहीन.
मैं उसकी मां से मिलना चाहती हूं.
मां खुश है कि मैंने वादे के मुताबिक किताब में अंशुल की असली पहचान को छुपा दिया है.
यही इकलौता निवेदन उसने मुझसे किया था.
उसकी मां किसी के अपहरण के मामले में जेल के अंदर है.
पति फरार है.
मुलाकात के लिए कभी कोई नहीं आया.
करीब सात साल से इस जेल के अंदर है.
कब बाहर जाएगी,
कोई नहीं जानता.
अंशुल अब
6 साल का हो चला है.
जेल के नियमों के मुताबिक वो भी उम्र की इस सीमा को लांघने के बाद कहां जाएगा,
कौन जाने.
इन बच्चों की टीचर नीलम है.
नीलम की उम्र
35 साल है.
वो इन बच्चों को रोज पढ़ाती है.
वह अपने पति की दूसरी पत्नी थी.
एक वारदात में पति का अपहरण हुआ और फिर हत्या.
तब से वह यहां है.
उसके मायके से तो परिवार मिलने आता है,
लेकिन ससुराल ने उसे बिसरा दिया है.
पति की पहली शादी से हुई संतानें उसे नापसंद करती हैं.
फिल्मी कहानी की तरह असली और सौतेली मां की जो स्थाई छवियां समाज ने गढ़ी थीं,
वे समय के साथ वहीं टिकी पड़ी हैं.
मैं बार-बार पूछती हूं कि वो महिला कहां है जो शायरी लिखती है.
वो इस समय इग्नू की क्लास में बैठी है.
आज इंग्लिश का टेस्ट है.
टीचर टेस्ट ले रहे हैं.
सामने करीब करीब
12 महिलाएं बैठी हैं.
उनमें से दो उम्रदराज हैं.
मैं उससे कहती हूं कि और लिखे और लिखकर मेरे पास भेजे.
फिर मुझे याद आता है कि कल ही तो मुझे एक पुलिस महानिदेशक ने टोका था कि जेलों में लिखने का क्या फायदा होगा.
अब मैं उनको क्या कहूं कि भगत सिंह या फिर महात्मा गांधी को जेल में लिखने से क्या फायदा हुआ था,
उसे कोई कभी तोल पाएगा क्या.
बहुत से लोग जो जेल गए और लिखते रहे.
उन्हें क्या फायदा हुआ था,
यह समझाना बड़ा मुश्किल है.
जेल के एकाकीपन में अगर कलम और कागज भी न हो,
रंग और कैनवास भी न हों तो फिर जेल में रोशनदान कभी नहीं बनेंगे.

Nobody can even think, what will be the future of these children. They have started their lives inside prisons. They have no idea about the lives outside these walls. When they get the chance to go outside after some years, they will be curious how life is going to be. There may be people who are willing to help them but for most, they are the children of prison inmates. Before they even get the chance to know about the world, they have been given a label. Most people are not aware or have no idea about these children who are spending their childhood inside prisons. जेल में रहने वाले कुछ अघोषित अपराधी भी हैं। जिनके बारे में कोई नहीं जानता है ओर नहीं कोई जानना या बात करना चाहता है - वो अपराधी और कोई नही बल्कि जेल में रहने वाले बच्चे हैं। जो अपने मां- बाप की सजा काट रहे हैं जो की जेल में पैदा हुए हैं, बदकिस्मती से उनका पता जेल ही है। जेल उनका घर बन चुका है। वो बच्चे जेल में ही काम करने वाले लोगों में ही अपने मामाओं और चाचाओं को ढूंढ लेते हैं, यह वो बच्चे हैं जिनका बच्पन आम बच्चो से बहुत अलग है, यह बच्चे बाहर जाने की ज़िद नहीं कर सकते ,यह बच्चे नए खिलौने खरीदने की ज़िद नहीं कर सकते।यह बच्चे अपने परंभिक वर्षों में ही बहुत कुछ झेलते हैं। और अपनी माओं के साथ जेल में होने वाली हर चीज़ों में खुशियां खोजने की कोशिश करते हैं। यह वो बच्चे हैं जो अपराधी नहीं हैं लेकिन अपराधी जैसी पूरी सजा काट रहे हैं। जिनका बच्पन अंधेरों में गुजरता है। यह बच्चे जेल की बाहरी दुनिया में भी जेल में रहने वाले बंदियों के बच्चे ही कहलाएंगे। समाज उन्हे इसी दृष्टि से देखेगा।तिनका तिनका ने इन्हीं बच्चो के दर्द को लोगों तक पहुंचाने की कोशिश की है। ताकि लोग जान पाए कि अघोषित अपराधी होना आखिर होता क्या है।।।

I feel pity for the children. They are having punishment for the deeds that they didn't do! Their education, life and health all is suffering due to the inmates and the laws. Having philosophical talks about rights of chikdren is just another thing and doing something for them is another thing. They need to have a good life by any means. Thanks to Vartika Nanda Ma'am for showing us the reality and reforming the lives of these prisoners and children. Hope that one day, they will breathe in the open air of the environment away from jails.
While it is disheartening to see the children being exposed to vulnerability for deeds that they haven't done, Dr Vartika Nanda's work for their upliftment has been absolutely laudable. She had achieved so much when she was young, that she could also inspire the youth in jails, especially Madhya Pradesh, and back their talents. To see the positive side, the lives of many great individuals, for instance Aurobindo, had changed after they went in the prison. That is where they realised that they had to contribute towards the betterment of the society. What is painful, is these children who never were part of any offence, have been born and brought up in a jail and what is further more regretful is that even their parents are under trial, they haven't been proved guilty of the offence yet. When we think of prisoners we are quick to assume that all inmates are guilty, which is not true even in there, there are people who didn't committed the wrong. Prison reforms are an otherwise neglected social movement also because we presume that prisoners will be prisoners, that they don't deserve a peaceful life because they are not regretful we fail to notice that every inmate has not committed the wrong and those who did commit it, even among them they're people who are regretful and are willing to change. And we also can't deny that some people committed the wrong and never went to prison. But to decide who did commit the wrong, and who didn't isn't under our discretion, all we can look at is who is willing to change for the better. #vartikananda #tinkatinka #prison #jail

Tinka Tinka Madhya Pradesh created a milestone by engaging 19 people twelve men, two women, four children lodged with their mothers, and a warder (Prahari) from the prisons of Madhya Pradesh. Vartika ma'am gives a true representation of life inside prisons. Instead of sensationalizing, she has written about the true and lived experiences of inmates and even their children who unfortunately are also lodged inside prisons.
