Advanced Broadcast Media: Weekly Report

 21st August - 25th August 2023

This week, the class started with an introduction to the paper “Advanced Broadcast Media” by Dr. Vartika Nanda followed by  a discussion on the syllabus and what the students will learn. The students were also advised to engage in practical activities and suggestions were taken for the same. The topics discussed this week were community radio and reconstruction in the news.


The topic of community radio was presented by Vaishalli Priya and Ishita Bhalla’ it covered all different aspects of community radio. The presentation included definition, history, case studies, rules and regulations, the total number of community radios, etc. The discussion was followed by inputs given by Dr. Vartika Nanda explaining the positives of community radio, the rules that they follow, and their struggles. She also informed the students about some important points regarding the same.


The topic of reconstruction in the news started with a discussion on what the students understand about reconstruction, when, where, and how it is used, its ethicality, and some case studies. The discussion was followed by explanations and important pointers given by Dr. Vartika Nanda. The students got two assignments: Community Radio and Reconstruction in News, written in 900 words.

The topic discussed this week was “campus radio”. The document was made by Amani Fathima and Anusha Malhotra and presented by Amani in the class. The class started with a discussion on what the students understand about campus radio followed by the presentation. 


The presentation started with the definition and the history of campus radio followed by the present status which also included facts. The process of transmission as well as its cost was also mentioned. Roles of campus radio like Community Engagement, Platform for Creative Expression, Information Dissemination, Promotion of Local Culture, etc. were discussed and Dr. Vartika Nanda gave her input. She also explained the difference between Campus radio and community radio and gave inputs on the same. The presentation also included challenges faced by campus radio. 


The class ended with Dr. Vartika Nanda giving inputs about the type of content produced by these campus radios and the roles and responsibilities of running such a radio. The students got assignments on the topic Campus Radio to be written in 800 words which should be factual and include case studies.
