Tinka Jail Radio: Navratri prayers in Kurukshetra Jail

15 inmates gathered in a room on the ninth day of Navratri to offer prayers on Ram Navami through hymns and a traditional 'Mata ki Chowki'. The divine echo enchanted the rest of the inmates too who were prompted to request that the devotional rhythm be played repeatedly. It is all to Tinka Jail Radio's credit that a new flame of righteousness and devotion has sparked among the inmates encouraging them to become better human beings.

History of Kurukshetra Jail

Spread over 15 acres of land, District Jail, Kurukshetra, was inaugurated in the year 1995 by the then Jail Minister of Haryana. At present, there are nearly 670 male inmates and 32 female inmates lodged in this jail.

Kurukshetra Jail Radio

The mission to bring jail radio to Haryana's jails commenced in the year 2020. The first jail radio was established in Panipat in 2021. For the last few months, the work of bringing jail radio to Kurukshetra Jail has also begun for which 10 men and 2 women inmates have been selected as radio jockeys.

Kurukshetra's Jail Radio is going to start its operations very soon. Considering the historicity of Kurukshetra, programmes are also being prepared on the discourses related to Gita and Mahabharata.

These heart-warming stories were being shared silently among a small group of prison officers and inmates and were kept away from public glare. Now, thanks to this novel approach of Tinka Tinka , the world too can see these wholesome efforts, carried out not for pomp or show, but only for the sake of humanity. #vartikananda #tinkatinka #jailradio prisonreform

This has given the inmates the necessary space to open up and be creative. It has been started with an aim to rehabilitate the inmates and help them to express their creative side by way of singing songs or writings. #vartikananda #tinkatinka #jailradio #prisonreform

Social reform is not to be secured by noise and shouting; by complaints and denunciation; by the formation of parties, or the making of revolutions; but by the awakening of thought and the progress of ideas. Until there be correct thought, there cannot be right action; and when there is correct thought, right action will follow. This is most appropriate in case of Dr. Vartika Nanda as she is using her creative ideas to bring a hope of light in the lives of inmates. The idea of radio station in the jails, their own radio jockey and own programmes is commendable job done by Dr Vartika Nanda. #vartikananda #tinkatinka #jailradio %jailsharyana
