Weekly Report: Batch of 2024: Week 5 of January, 2022

The first-year students of the Department of Journalism attended the Introduction to Journalism lecture on Monday, January 31, 2022, under Dr. Vartika Nanda. A detailed and informative session on the topic “use of archives” was conducted in which the students learned about the history, characteristics and the use of archives in journalism through three video lectures given by the professor. An impactful and illustrative presentation was also presented by the students on the aforementioned topic. Further, an assignment was given to the students to write about the “use of archives” in 800 words.

On Tuesday, February 01, 2022, a collective document regarding the use of archives in journalism was presented before the class. There was an extensive discussion about the importance of static and historical material present and its significance in the field of journalism. There was another collective assignment compiled by the class regarding the rising numbers of mental health cases during the pandemic, keeping in mind the importance of archived information.

On Thursday, February 03, 2022, an extensive discussion took place on the topic “Use of Internet”. The students came up with general advantages and disadvantages, along with contemporary pros and cons of the internet. The students compiled a collective assignment on an essay on the same topic which included real life case studies and examples relating to contemporary issues

On Friday, February 04, 2022, the students presented a presentation on the topic “Use of Internet” including its significance in the growing process of citizen journalism. Students also looked up some scholarly articles and researches so as to improve their knowledge about the relevant issues and their solutions in modern times. Some examples of contemporary uses were also added by the professor after the presentation and the precautions with which social media should be handled were also highlighted.
