The first-year students of the Department of Journalism attended the Introduction to Journalism lecture on February 7, 2022, taken by Dr. Vartika Nanda. A detailed and informative session on the topic “How to make presentations more presentable” was conducted. An informative powerpoint presentation was made by the students which extensively explained the details and skills required for a good presentation.

On February 8, 2022, the students discussed media and its role in a democracy, and a collective assignment was given to the class to make a word document inclusive of the meaning, characteristics and the contemporary examples in which media plays its role in a democracy. It included examples like the parliament attack, 26/11 attacks and even the national emergency imposed in 1975. Issues like freedom of expression and press rights were also taken up by the students.

On February 10, 2022, the students discussed the topic ‘Difference between Print, Electronic and Online Journalism’. The professor talked about some major changes in the history of media such as the coming of coloured TV, initiation of radio programs etc. Students shared their perspective on the idea of journalism in today’s time and how the three types of media are different from each other.

On February 11, 2022, the students continued with the discussion held in the previous class. They also discussed topics such as the demographics of internet users, the statistics related to total number of registered newspapers, operating television channels and the channels who get the highest TRP, etc. Conclusively, the students compiled a document containing all the information and ideas about the major differences between print, electronic and online journalism.
