First Visit to Lady Shri Ram College: Batch of 2023

Jul 22, 2022

Anushree Mukherjee: President, Department Union 2021-2022, Department of Journalism

“A leader is someone who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.” This quote by John Maxwell very aptly describes who Anushree is and what she stands for. Exuding confidence at all times, she is the best person to approach if one needs help. She is an extremely helpful, kind and vibrant woman with a shining smile. It is the most wondrous thing to hear her speak, for she is eloquent and her voice captivating and comforting at the same time.

From a very young age, it was Anushree’s dream to come to LSR, rather she was certain that it would become reality. She joined the college as the batch of 2022 in the Journalism Honours course after working rigorously for it. In her first year, she was elected as the Class Representative of her batch. She was also a part of the college magazine and wrote for them as a correspondent along with being a core member of Expressions, the creative writing society, owing to her immaculate writing skills. She was integrated with Kriti, a NSS project and used this platform to teach young students.

In her second year, she contributed actively to the success of the CounterTalk publication of the Journalism Department as the content editor. She was elected as the President of the department the same year, which is a testimony of her leadership prowess and her ability to build relationships. With the hustle-bustle of the third and last year of college, she was proactively involved in department work in terms of research. She elected six core teams for the department, namely, The Design Team, The Academic Assistance Team, The Content Team, The Event Management Team, The Social Media Team and The PR & Innovation Team. She also coordinated the functioning and establishment of the Media Research Cell, under the aegis of Teacher-in-Charge, Dr. Vartika Nanda. She was a regular contributor to the cell and assisted in tons of writing and content, editing and research work, along with video editing, poster making, trailer making for social media content and more. She also has been a constant benefactor to the department blog in terms of daily reports, systematically honing her writing abilities.

As the President of the department, a lot of responsibilities come with it and she played her part with a cool and unwavering composure always, no matter how dire a situation might be. She fervently organised the farewell for the batch of 2021 along with the orientation for the batch of 2024, a sign of a considerate and go-getter individual. She organised the department fest, Juxtapose 2022 in the physical mode as colleges reopened after twenty three testing months. Her enthusiasm and ability to encourage people made the fest a thriving success.

She gladly credits LSR and her department for developing her leadership, management, communication and people skills manyfold. She claims that studying journalism gave her an opportunity to explore her interests and gain fruitful knowledge pertaining to the various domains of media. In her tenure at college, eighteen guest lectures have been organised for the department. She herself conducted a guest lecture for the batch of 2023 on “Media Trial” with zeal. It is impossible to not listen to Anushree when she speaks, such is her persona and charm.

In the air of normalcy, the college reopened and wholeheartedly welcomed the students back on campus. However, the sudden shift to the offline mode after almost two years of online teaching was nothing short of a challenge. Anushree took the responsibility of handling the entire transition as she witnessed students struggling. She claimed it was her utmost priority to ensure the mental well-being of students as they returned to the college. Over time, she has developed great and long-lasting friendships she will cherish for life along with cordial relations with the faculty of the college who have been her guides throughout her journey in LSR. As she signed off as the President of the department, she gladly exclaimed “I am taking with me some amazing memories of some amazing people and LSR will always be my home”.
