Lady Shri Ram College for Women has had a legacy of prolific and accomplished academics over the decades since its establishment. And there is no doubt that this rich legacy continues to thrive till today.
On 13th and 14th of July 2022, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) paid a visit to the college after five years. The purpose of NAAC visit is to derive an understanding of the ‘Quality Status’ of institutions. Our Principal, Dr. Suman Sharma oversaw the entire process of supervising the NAAC preparations. Under her able leadership, all the 15 departments of LSR worked tirelessly to put forth the best show.
During its last visit in 2016, NAAC accredited LSR with an A grade and 3.61 CGPA on a four-point scale. With the objective of putting our best foot forward for this year’s visit as well, the best practices at LSR were beautifully exhibited. One such exhibit was in the Aung Sang Suu Kyi Centre For Peace located in the heart of the college. A dedicated team of academics have been collecting and organizing data to document all publications done by LSR faculty.
Dr. Jyoti Darbari (Associate Professor in the Mathematics Department), in-charge of the NAAC publications, Dr. Vijayant ( Assistant Professor in the History Department) and their team worked tirelessly for weeks, to catalogue an ocean of varied publications and display them. These include book publications, journal publications, chapters and books, papers and proceedings, and the most important of them all, Ph.D. thesis publications. Dr. Darbari mentioned, “The collection of all these proceedings, chapters, and journals has been very tireless. But the team has done a wonderful job and I am glad to share the quantum that we have been able to display in our ASSK Centre.”

In the last five years, from 2016 up till now (2022), LSR faculty has produced a whopping 500+ journal publications, 52 books, and a large number of chapters and proceedings. Dr. Vijayant added, “The most heartening quantitative data that we would like to share is the number of thesis publications that we have. There are a total of 38 thesis publications in our midst by our eminent faculty, from 2016 up till now.”
For everything that was kept on display from chapters and proceedings to journals and theses, a catalogue of it has been prepared, including a soft copy of the same. This has been shared with all faculty members at LSR. The google scholar profiles of all the faculty were also accumulated since many of them have great citations and h-indexes. The highest h-index in our college is 11 which is a high one. The maximum number of citations by a faculty member is 507. Dr. Darbari gladly said, “We look forward to many more publications!”
No task is without its challenges and neither was this one. Dr. Darbari mentioned, “The accumulation of this data and the final product is not a mere work of 25 days. I have been involved with NIRF for 4-5 years now and this is something I have been doing for a long time. It was a systematic process.” The biggest challenge this time however was to produce all the data in hard copies. Also, the fact that the faculty has valuable material and books of which there exists only one copy, they were made to part with it for the documentation purpose. The faculty placed their trust in Dr, Darbari and Dr. Vijayant’s team to take care of their life’s work and this speaks volumes of the family-like relationship that everyone at LSR shares. Not a single professor refused to share their work for the purpose of this exhibition.
Dr. Darbari happily signed off by saying, “It was not just our team, but the entire faculty body of LSR has been very supportive and they have given all their publications in time. This exhibition is all about showcasing what we have done and to motivate others. It is an inspiration to each other and it is also a great platform to showcase the level of work done by the faculty to the students as well. The faculty does a lot outside the four walls of the classroom which the students are unaware of, and this exhibition is a testimony of all the amazing work done by the faculty. We hope the students get inspired by their own teaching fraternity.”
Undoubtedly the display of publications by the team motivated all those who could visit this centre of excellence. Much praise and appreciation was received by everyone. LSR prides itself over outstanding achievements of its brilliant faculty as they continue to inspire us with their impressive feats.
