DELHI, INDIA | 16 August 2026: The Special After Care Home for Children in Lajpat Nagar welcomed new residents today, young women who had been temporarily shifted from the Nirmal Chhaya After Care Home in West Delhi. Accompanying Dr. Rashmi Singh, IAS, Secretary, Department of Women and Child Development (WCD), Government of Delhi, was Professor Vartika Nanda, who joined the visit to interact with the residents and understand their journey of transition and rehabilitation.
Nestled in a quiet corner of South Delhi, the Special After Care Home is run by the Department of Women and Child Development and serves young adults between the ages of 18 and 21 under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. Behind its modest gates lie stories that rarely find space in public conversations, stories of resilience, survival, and the difficult passage from institutional care to independent adulthood.
