2015: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan releasing first ever musical video with inmates as singers & performers: Tinka Tinka Tihar

Location: Parliament House, Delhi
Year: 2015

“Tinka Tinka Tihar”, – a the musical video song that was born amidst the gray, lifeless imprisonments of inmates who were ignited with creativity and the spark of hope – was produced by Lok Sabha TV, and released in the Parliament House Chamber by Sumitra Mahajan, Hon’ble speaker, Lok Sabha in May 2015.

The musical video found its way to be shot inside jail number 2 of Tihar, conceptualised, scripted and directed by Vartika Nanda, a prison reformer and journalist. The video song broke records of being first ever of its kind to have been shot in a prison - and that too, in the largest prison in South Asia. A song that resonated with many hearts and souls. A song that was called “Tinka Tinka Tihar”.

Tinka Tinka Tihar was the first initiative by Tinka Tinka Movement for reformation of jails and the jailed. It was a success and was also part of the Limca Book of Records. It definitely must have been a proud moment for the inmates who got the chance to perform in the song, when they realized that their song CD was released by the then Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan. Hats off to Vartika Mam for this initiative and I hope she will be able to achieve more such milestones in the future. tinkatinka #vartikananda #humanrights #prisonreforms
