The Journalism department of Lady Shri Ram College for Women hosted its Annual Academic Meet- Juxtapose on the 27th and 28th of September in the college premises.
Juxtapose, a department of journalism initiative, aims at deliberating and bringing on stage the issues concerning society and the media.
This year, Juxtapose revolved around the theme- "On Battlefield: Death or Rebirth of Media?" and the events spread over two days addressed areas of censorship, film journalism, fake news, changing patterns of films, ownership, and media trial.
Day two, 28th September 2018, of Juxtapose began with an interesting Open Mic session in which the participants spoke on the topic "#Trending". Participants from different walks of life recited poems, sang songs, created sounds, mimicked artists and also did comedy on the stage. The event was taken further with a Panel Discussion in which journalists and media enthusiasts like, Neha Dixit, Ritu Kapur, and Nikhil Pahwa engaged in a discussion on the theme- "Who is the journalist if we are all newsmakers?". The third event of the day- Vox Pop- the annual turncoat debate witnessed a massive participation and continued for almost four long hours. The debate was held on an important and serious topic of the role of media and reporters during an individual's court trial. Media Quiz, a quizzing competition was the final event of the annual meet and consisted of two question-answers round.
Juxtapose had a total of seven offline events and two online events. Panorama, an online photography event with the theme "Freedom and/or Restriction", and Meme Making, an online meme making event with the theme "Cinema and stereotypes" were introduced for the students.
Juxtapose 2018 was a grand success and brought together not just journalism students but students from different fields. Journalism Department organises this event each year with the hope of addressing media-based issues.
