On 2nd June 2023,  the Department Of Journalism conducted a guest lecture for the batch 2025/26  on the paper Reporting and Editing For Print. Dr. Ambrish Saxena was invited to address the students on various topics covered under UNIT 2 : Newsroom and Anatomy of a Newspaper.The lecture started with an introduction to the entire organisational structure and set up of departments involved in creating a newspaper. A detailed discussion followed on the roles and responsibilities of various departments within this structure such as the Production Department, the Advertising Department, the Editorial Department, and the Circulation Department . The structure of the Editorial Department was thoroughly discussed, with Dr.Saxena stressing on the functions and importance of Copy editors, Sub Editors and the Editor -In -Chief in a Newsroom.



The organizational setup of  bureaus, newsrooms was elaborated upon, and the process of dissemination of news from local , regional and sometimes even international sources to the newsroom were thoroughly explained. The brainstorming behind the process of selection of stories for the newspaper, the typography, and headlines were all fascinating to hear and gave the class new insights into the entire process. 





In addition to this a detailed discussion took place on crime beat and the role that sources, both official and unofficial,play in effective crime beat reporting. A comparison between news reporting and information dissemination around the world was deliberated upon ,with him asking the students to identify similarities and dissimilarities between this process in different countries.


The 3-hour lecture concluded with Dr.Saxena sharing with the class, the works of prominent journalists, encouraging students to read more about their work .He also stressed the need for every journalism student to always be up to date with current affairs and constantly be aware of everything happening around them.
