Children as Storytellers of Change
At their usual learning hour, 6 children visited the All Women's Police Chowki at GB Road to share their writings and creative work with the police team and volunteers. Among them was 12-year-old Tabiha, a Class 9 student studying in a nearby school. Confident and eager, she presented her writing, reflecting both her talent and her determination to build a brighter future through education.

Reimagining the Police Chowki as an Education Hub
In an extraordinary initiative, Delhi Police and Tinka Tinka Foundation (TTF) are working together to transform the police chowki into a vibrant educational space. The vision is simple yet powerful: to create a safe learning environment where children can read, write, express themselves, and dream beyond the limitations of their surroundings.
The Role of a Caring Mentor
More than 30 children regularly visit the chowki to meet Sub-Inspector Kiran Sethi, whose continuous encouragement has made a lasting impact on young lives. For many children, her presence represents trust, motivation, and a belief that education can become a pathway to opportunity and self-respect.
Breaking Cycles Through Learning
GB Road, officially known as Swami Shradhanand Marg, is widely associated with the red-light district. In such a setting, quality education becomes not just important but essential. It offers children the possibility of breaking intergenerational cycles of exclusion and vulnerability, while opening doors to new opportunities and aspirations.
A Library Takes Shape
A dedicated library is currently being developed in the chowki. The initiative aims to provide children with regular access to books, reading materials, and creative resources. More than a collection of books, the library is envisioned as a space where curiosity, imagination, and learning can flourish.
A former inmate painting the library
Tinka Tinka Foundation (TTF) has identified and selected a former jail inmate to paint the library, details of which will be shared at an appropriate time.
Making Learning Systematic and Meaningful
The larger goal is to make education more structured, engaging, and meaningful for children growing up in the area. Through reading sessions, creative writing, discussions, and mentorship, the initiative seeks to nurture confidence, communication skills, and a lifelong love for learning.
GB Road in the National Spotlight
The realities and complexities of life in GB Road have increasingly drawn national attention. In a documentary feature by BRUT India, journalist Professor (Dr. ) Vartika Nanda entered the narrow lanes of GB Road to document the lived experiences of women and families residing there. The report highlighted stories of resilience, survival, and the social challenges faced by those living behind closed doors, bringing wider public attention to a community often seen but rarely understood. The documentary also underscored the importance of interventions focused on dignity, education, and social inclusion for the next generation. A Small Space, A Powerful Change
What was once seen only as a police outpost is gradually evolving into a centre of learning and hope. Through the collective efforts of Delhi Police, TTF, and the children themselves, the All Women's Police Chowki at GB Road is demonstrating how education can become a powerful force for transformation, one child and one story at a time.
