For 51 days, from 7 May to 1 July 2020, Tinka Tinka podcasts showcased the stories of resilience and reformation and also the contributions of inmates and prison staff, who joined hands to combat COVID-19. Each episode, of one to three minutes, is a tale that is a brief but powerful glimpse into the remarkable endeavors of the prison community. Tinka Tinka Jail News, a trailblazing YouTube News Channel is the first-ever channel dedicated to sharing stories from the hearts of prisons across India. This is the brainchild of Vartika Nanda, Founder of Tinka Tinka. Kissa Khaki ka: Annual celebration on 16th January,2023

 #KissaKhakiKa is the only podcast series by any police department. Dr. Vartika Nanda is the official storyteller of Kissa Khaki Ka. These podcasts are scripted and narrated by her on an honorary basis. She is an academic by profession, a journalist by vocation, and a prison reformer by passion. She has used the best practices of journalism and academia for studying and contributing to prison reforms. As the founder of the Tinka Tinka Foundation, she has tirelessly worked for improving the conditions in India’s prisons, such as including the introduction of prison radio in District Jail, Agra, and the jails of Haryana. 31 जुलाई, 2023: देश की सबसे पुरानी जेल के रेडियो ने पूरे किए चार साल

1741 में मुगलों के जमाने में बने जिला जेल, आगरा में स्थापित रेडियो बंदियों की जिंदगी का सहारा बन गया है। ठीक चार साल पहले 31 जुलाई को इस रेडियो का शुभारंभ एसएसपी बबलू कुमार, जेल अधीक्षक शशिकांत मिश्रा और तिनका तिनका की फाउंडेशन संस्थापिका वर्तिका नन्दा ने किया था। जेल रेडियो की परिकल्पना और उसका प्रशिक्षण वर्तिका नन्दा ने करवाया था। उस समय आईआईएम बेंगलुरु से स्नातक महिला बंदी – तुहिना और स्नातकोत्तर पुरुष बंदी- उदय को रेडियो जॉकी बनाया गया था। बाद में एक और बंदी- रजत इसके साथ जुड़ा।  तुहिना उत्तर प्रदेश की जेलों की पहली महिला रेडियो जॉकी की जेल बनी। रेडियो के लिए स्क्रिप्ट बंदी ही तैयार करते हैं। आगरा जिला जेल का रेडियो अब काफी चर्चा में है और अपनी निरंतरता से उसने जेल को मानवीय बनाने में मदद की है। अब प्रदेश की पांच सेंट्रल जेल और कम से कम 20 जिला जेलों में रेडियो शुरु किए जा चुके हैं।

अब तैयार होगी नई खेप

जिला जेल, आगरा के नए अधीक्षक हरिओम शर्मा के नेतृत्व में इस जेल में अब बंदियों का चयन होगा और उन्हें रेडियो जॉकी की ट्रेनिंग दी जाएगी। ट्रेनिंग का काम तिनका तिनका फाउंडेशन करेगी। यह काम अगस्त में शुरू होने की संभावना है।

जेल रेडियो के प्रयोग

जिला जेल, आगरा का यह जेल रेडियो उत्तर प्रदेश की बाकी जेलों में रेडियो को लेकर एक नींव बना। कोरोना के दौरान जेल ने बंदियों के मनोबल को बनाया। इसी रेडियो के जरिए जेल में महत्वपूरण सूचनाएं बंदियों तक पहुंचाई गीं।  मुलाकातें बंद होने पर यही उनके संवाद का सबसे बड़ा जरिया बना।  इसकी मदद से बंदियों कोरोना के प्रति जागरुक किया जाता गया। वे इसके जरिए अपनी पसंद के गाने सुन पाते हैं। अपनी हिस्सेदारी को लेकर उनमें खूब रोमांच रहता है।  महिला बंदियों को कजरी गीत गाने में विशेष आनंद आता है। रेडियो की पंच लाइन ‘कुछ खास है हम सभी में’ ने सबमें प्रेरणा का संचार किया है। इस दौरान वर्तिका नन्दा ने उतर प्रदेश की जेलों पर एक विशेष शोध किया जो कि भारतीय जेलों में महिलाओं और बच्चों की संचार की जरूरतों पर आधारित था। 2020 में ICSSR के लिए किए गए उनके इस शोध को उत्कृष्ट माना गया है और अब यह एक पुस्तक के रूप में सामने आ रहा है।  इस शोध के केंद्र में जिला जेल, आगरा थी।

District Jail, Agra: 2019

Vartika Nanda did extensive research on the “Condition of women inmates and their children in Indian Prisons and their communication needs with special reference to Uttar Pradesh” in 2019-20. During this period, she also launched Prison Radio in District Jail, Agra. Tinka Jail Radio in DJ, Agra was inaugurated by Babloo Kumar, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Agra, Shashi Kant Mishra, Superintendent, Agra District Jail, and Vartika Nanda, prison reformer on 31st July 2019.  This is the oldest prison building in India.

The beginning of Covid-19 in India brought a ban on visitations in all jails. This was the time when the potential and need for radio was realized more deeply. During the pandemic, prison radio played an even more significant role, becoming the major source of information and entertainment for incarcerated souls. During this time, the Tinka Model of Prison Radio started taking shape.

Later, radios were launched in the jails of Haryana and in District Jail, Dehradun.

On the occasion of Independence Day, Indian prisons are set to release numerous inmates as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. Introduced last year in three phases, this remission program reaches its final stage on the 77th Independence Day celebration. Certain categories of prisoners will receive special remission, allowing them to have an early release from their sentences. This noble move allows them to relish their freedom and turn a fresh page for an aspiring future.

Adding to the prisoners' sense of liberty is the "Tinka Tinka Jail Radio," a medium that builds a creative connection to the outside world. The Tinka Tinka podcasts, narrate and document tales of prison reform. It is conceived, narrated, and produced by Dr. Vartika Nanda, a prominent prison reformer and media educator. These episodes are available on both YouTube and Spotify.

The distinctive tune of the "Tinka Tinka" podcast is composed by three inmates of District Jail, Dehradun, who have been invaluable contributors to the podcast's journey.

This special episode of Tinka Tinka Jail Radio is a tribute to the undying spirit of Nelson Mandela who spent 27 years of his life in jail. उत्तर प्रदेश की डासना जेल से उत्तराखंड की देहरादून जेल तक वो गाना जो बंदियों के सृजन का साक्षी बना। इसे सुनिए। सबको सुनाइए।

साल 2016 में यूपी की डासना जेल में सृजनात्मक कारीगरी का एक गाना बुना गया था, जिसके बोल थे- टूटे अपनी आस न यह है अपना डासना'.  जिला जेल, डासना के 13 कैदियों द्वारा गाया गया यह गाना उन लोगों को आवाज देता है जो अपने जीवन में बदलाव लाना चाहते हैं. जेल सुधार विशेषज्ञ वर्तिका नंदा द्वारा परिकल्पित, लिखित और निर्देशित इस गीत को डासना जेल की दीवार के सामने फिल्माया गया था. अब साल 2023 में यह गाना पहुंचा है- गुजरात की केंद्रीय  जेल, साबरमती। इस बार महेंद्र प्रजापति नामक बंदी ने इस गाने को अपने स्वर दिए. उन्होंने अपने अंदाज में इस गाने को गाकर इसे जीवित रखने का अनूठा प्रयास किया है. पॉडकास्ट के इस अंक में आप महेंद्र प्रजापति की आवाज में सुनिए...
